IT&E Guam: Kababayan Sim

Kababayan SIM

Seems like all of the Guam wireless carriers are trying to take a bigger bite out of the prepaid cellular market by targeting certain ethnic groups. Promises of lower rates to the motherland...

First I want to start off with the Kababayan Sim from IT&E. $20 and I get a SIM with $10 load. Should work as long as my handset is unlocked. Seems simple enough.

17.5 US cents a minute for calls to a Globe or TM number in the Philippines and 50 centavos per text from a Globe prepaid SIM to your IT&E number. Sounds cool right? (From personal experience... most people who use Globe do so because of the great subsidized prices they get on their phones... and have to endure a postpaid contract. Most prepaid users choose SMART because they're cheaper and seem to have better service in the greater Manila area.) Fail on that one IT&E.

I figured it would be a direct dial call to the Philippines. I dialed country code+city code+landline number. Call cannot be completed. Okay... country code+mobile number. Nothing. I try several other variations. Nothing. I check the sleeve that the SIM came in. No instructions. Odd. I call customer service and the CSR didn't seem to understand what i was asking for. She kept repeating the instructions for their long distance cards. After 20 minutes I gave up.

I then checked the IT&E website for a dialing sequence or access code. Nothing. I looked through the whole site including FAQ's. Nothing. I e-mailed their 24 hour customer service. 18 hours later I'm still waiting for a reply. Sorry IT&E... you're buckets of FAIL and I'm taking my $20.00 elsewhere. Tee Hee!

I wonder if GTA is still trading SIMs.
