New BlackBerry 6 Teaser Video
I love that the OS developers are doing everything they can to produce the best product available.
With all of the pre-release hardware leaks of late that have showed off glimpses of BlackBerry 6, it's nice to see RIM up their game with a new BB6 promo video. Over at the official BlackBerry blog, Andrew Bocking, VP of Handheld Software Product Management, expressed his excitement for the updated operating system. RIM let us know that:
In addition to the new fluid user interface, the new video illustrates a few of the new applications and features in BlackBerry 6 that will provide users with a mobile experience that is both fun and approachable, yet extremely powerful including:
* redesigned home screen
* universal search
* context-sensitive pop-up menus
* revamped BlackBerry Browser powered by WebKit
* new applications like Social Feeds (which integrates all your news and social networks into one destination) and moreCheck out the the video above to get a better idea of the new look and new features coming in BlackBerry 6. All I want to know now, as we all have for months, is which in-market devices will get the BB6 update? Is 6 only going to be made available to devices with 512MB of memory (or more)? Or will we see existing devices like the Bold 9700, Tour or Storm2 also get a BB6 update in time. I **think** I know the answer to this question, but it sure would be nice if RIM just told us. If we're going to need to be buying new phones for BlackBerry 6, I'd rather know sooner rather than later so I can start saving my pennies. Be sure to sound off in the comments with your reactions to the video!

BlackBerry OS 6.0 Leaked?

It looks like RIM is stepping up to the plate... and it doesn't look like they're planning on taking any prisoners. All this and rumors of the BlackBerry Slide making it's first appearance at RIM's very own WES.

Pinor Envy? Noooo…
BlackBerry Music?
You're kidding me right? Guess not. RIM is taking on Apple and Nokia by adding a wireless music download service. How are they able to do this? According to a report by tgdaily.com, RIM has entered a partnership with UK-based download website 7Digital, and will launch in the UK, US, Canada, France, Italy, Germany and Spain in September.
Hope that works out for you... more on this can be seen here.
LG to Launch Mobile App Store?
Reals? I'm thinking this is because Neon, Xenon, Incite and Vu owners are mad that they wanted to be individuals and not spend the money on the iPhone.
"As we've announced earlier, LG is planning to invest heavily in the smartphone market going forward, with ten smartphones being introduced this year alone. As the trend has shown, the appeal of smartphones is in the diversity and usefulness of the applications. Opening our own Application Store will allow us to offer the best content and applications for our devices so that LG phone owners will get the best possible ownership experience" said Dr. Skott Ahn, CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.

BlackBerry Onyx with Trackpad

When we first reviewed the BlackBerry 9020 (Onyx), we made note of how much we'd love to see that trackball replaced with a trackpad. It was widely believed to be coming and we made note a few weeks back that trackpad 9020's were finally in the wild, so it's almost surprising that it took this long for a photo to pop up that shows the refined device. Hopefully we'll be able to do more than see soon, because adding a trackpad to to a BlackBerry that already has 3G, WiFi, GPS, and a 3.2 megapixel camera seems like just the right move.

Just had to bring this back for everyone that didn't get a chance to see it the first time... LOL!
BlackBerry Saves Falling Skier
Source: The SUN
A SKIER who fell into a crevasse was saved from plummeting 700ft to his death by his mobile phone. David Fitzherbert got wedged between two rocks due to the ½inch-wide Blackberry in his breast pocket. Incredibly, the device still worked after keeping him stuck for TWO HOURS until he was rescued. David, 52, was skiing off-piste down a glacier in the Matterhorn and Monterosa peaks in Switzerland when the snow gave way.
The finance worker said "The snow gave way beneath me and I fell down a very deep crevasse. After 70 feet it narrowed and I became stuck like a cork in a bottle between the walls. Fortunately the extra inches of the Blackberry were enough to block the fall."
David broke his jaw, smashed his teeth, cracked a bone in his chest and nearly tore his nose off. His mountain guide made a distress call, and a mountain rescue team came to dig him out. David said "I was stuck so fast they had to get a drill to dig away at the ice around me. I was eventually winched out by the helicopter rescue team."
He was flown to hospital suffering extreme hypothermia and concussion in Swiss capital Bern, where surgeons reattached his nose. David spent ten days in hospital - using the Blackberry to call his wife in the UK. He said: "It was still working well enough for me to tell her I was alive. I couldn't believe it."
On his return to the UK David wrote to Vodafone, who supplied the Blackberry, to thank them. A Vodafone spokesperson said: "We are so pleased that our handset helped save this customer's life and then ensured he was able to call home to let his family know of his safe rescue. Mr Fitzherbert is a very lucky man. It must be one of his favourite gadgets."

A clean slate…
It's been a month since I last posted and I decided that it would probably be a good idea to start off clean. I'll be testing different layouts... so if you come back and it looks a little different... don't worry... you're probably in the right place.
I've recently left my day job for no particular reason other than I felt it was time to leave. Constantly having to justify your position within a company takes it's toll... but no hard feelings. On the other hand it does feel good to know that things aren't running as smoothly as they expected after my leaving "the company".
Well here it is... "The Pok'Squid Project".
Most of the posts here will have to do with GEEK stuff. Mobile tech gear, gaming, photography, cars, nightlife, music... and a lot of iPhone and BlackBerry stuff. If you ever have any questions... please feel free to leave a comment or post in our community forum.
I'm glad you're here and I hope that you find my posts to be interesting and informative.
