Android on iPhone 3G
I'm a huge Android fan and couldn't be happier about the progress being made. I can't wait to see this on the 3GS but it's looking like I'll be picking up a 3G just in case.
After demonstrating Android running on his iPhone 2G, Planetbeing has succeeded in porting Android OS to the iPhone 3G.
Here is some comments on the progress made to PCWorld.

We've also made several other improvements to the original port in this version. Along with many under-the-hood improvements and bug fixes, the Wi-Fi driver has been fleshed out with all the Android-specific extensions, making it more stable and reliable. We've also added an Android icon to the boot menu to make it more easily accessible..Next up is audio support--we've already laid the groundwork for audio support on the 3G and gotten it working in our homemade bootloader, so support for audio in Linux/Android will be coming in a few days.
Also, look forward to improved power management and backlight control very soon. The hope is that you should soon be able to carry around your first-generation iPhone or iPhone 3G running Android and use it just as normally as you would any other Android phone.

Spirit Untethered Jailbreak for iPad, iPhone, iPod is Released!

YAY!
The Spirit Jailbreak for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch has been released!
We will be posted our tutorials momentarily. You can download the jailbreak at http://www.spiritjb.com
What's Spirit?
● Spirit is an untethered jailbreak for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch on the latest firmwares.
● Spirit is not a carrier unlock.
● If you currently are using a tethered jailbreak, you have to restore to use Spirit. Do not upgrade if you use an unlock on an iPhone 3G or 3GS. (You can, however, restore to 3.1.2 if you have SHSH blobs for that version.)Requirements
● Any iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch on firmware 3.1.2, 3.1.3, or 3.2.
● An activated device: one not stuck on the Connect to iTunes or Emergency Call screen.
● Any version of iTunes 9 (including 9.1.1).
● Syncing with iTunes before trying this highly recommended.Congratulations to comex and all those who made this jailbreak possible.

Endgadget Video on iPhone OS 4.0
Well the last week has been very busy for me and even busier for Apple. I'm sorry I haven't had much time to cover everything. Unless you've been living under a rock... in the Marianas Trench... I'm sure you've heard about the release of the iPad. I need to do a little more reading on that, but I'll get something out soon. =)
Also iPhone OS 4.0 has been showcased and everyone seems to be happy about all the new features. Check it out...
Rumors: New iPhone Specs
According to Daring Fireball, the news of a CDMA version of the iPhone may still be a rumor. Here's a few more. An A4-family CPU, a 960 × 640 double-resolution display, a second front-facing camera, third-party multitasking in iPhone OS 4.
The only thing anyone seems to really be sure about is that there will be a new iPhone this summer.

Apple News | Easy Browser Based iPhone Jailbreak Could Be Possible Again!

This entry needs translation. To help us and submit a translation please click hereAn iPhone exploit demonstrated at the CanSecWest conference today could bring back easy jailbreaks from the 1.x iPhone days.
Wednesday, researchers hacked a non-jailbroken iPhone, Safari on Snow Leopard, and both IE 8 and Firefox on Windows 7.
Charlie Miller won $10,000 after hacking Safari on a MacBook Pro without having physical access to the computer.
Ralf Philipp Weinmann of the University of Luxembourg, and Vincenzo Iozzo of German company Zynamics, hacked the iPhone and will receive a $15,000 prize.
Interestingly, their hack could mean good news for those looking to jailbreak. lozzo and Weinmann spent two weeks designing a way to steal the contents of the iPhone SMS database.
To accomplish the attack the iPhone needs to visit a Web site which hosts the exploit code. "The payload executes and uploads the local SMS database of the phone to the server we control," said Weinmann.
They bypassed digital code signatures using a technique known since 1997 but never used on an ARM processor. The exploit then looked for chucks in Apple's code that could be pieced together to accomplish the attack.
While the attack was used to grab just the SMS data, it could also be used to perform a jailbreak on the device, according to MuscleNerd from the iPhone Dev-Team.
"Congrats to @_snagg and @esizkur. This potentially re-opens userland jailbreaks that haven't been around since 1.x days (jailbreakme.com)"
"the bug they used should exist in 3.1.3 MobileSafari on all iphones/ipods though the actual payload bytes may differ"
MuscleNerd warns that Apple will likely close this bug as soon as possible...
"Userland exploits affect security for all iPhones so expect Apple to close these as soon as they can. JBers avoid updates!"

The iPhone Mystery: Carrier and Release Date Speculations
I love the iPhone. I crave the iPhone. I want to purchase one as soon as it's released, but I'm an AT&T customer locked in a 2 year contract till 2011 and with 3 lines on a family plan. I want to know if I should wait for the new phone to be released or go ahead with the 3GS now. In order to figure this out, I crawled the net for information, scouring over a dozen blogs, reputable tech sites, and several news articles regarding the iPhone 4G to discover if anyone knows what carrier the 4G will go to.
Unfortunately, AT&T users, the blog Gods and tech sites have spoken--and although still unconfirmed, it looks like Verizon will get the new phone. This doesn't mean AT&T won't have a chance to carry it as well, but it comes down to what carrier is 4G ready.
According to CNET and Product Reviews, it seems that AT&T won't be 4G ready till late 2011. On top of that, they are planning to charge heavy data users more money because they use data more, and lessen charges for those who are data-lite. This sounds like serious monkey doo doo, but it is a possibility that we here at Poksquid will keep a close eye on.
Now, to address the iPhone situation. People say it will be released this May while others say April, December, and possibly next year. Mobile Magazine states:
here has been a lot of talk over the last year or so about the iPhone 4G (fourth generation) and its impending arrival. While the iPhone 4G stands for an increase inoperating system and technological features of the device itself, it may also stand for the fourth generation of communications technology on the iPhone. Beceem, a company known for making components that make wireless communications possible, has managed to create a new chip that is indeed a 4G chip.
According to MacVideo, the new chip called the BCS5000 is said to have speeds and reliability up to the standards of the 4G. The 4G chip uses both Wimax and LTE, making it compatible with most of the 4G standards on the market, and providing the end user seamless roaming and roaring fast speeds.
It is expected to increase data speeds on the next generation of smart phones by ten times. Theoretical speeds are to be in between 100-150 Mbps for just one device. However, this theoretical maximum is too unconventional for the amount of traffic created by 4G usage. In a situation where 3G would offer 1 Mbps, “you’ll see around 10 Mbps on one of the 4G networks” sustainable for all devices in the network.
With this new chip, 4G devices should be the fastest most powerful yet. But since Beceem is not shipping 4G components to device manufacturers for mass production until Q2 of 2011, an iPhone “4G” would not be possible this time around with an expecte release date of June or July 2010. Unfortunately 4G WiMax and LTE would not actually make to the iPhone 4G this time around, perhaps the iPhone 5G will support 4G communications.
Well, avid iPhone'rs, I hate to say it but if Mobile Mag is right, then AT&T will be 4G ready by then and more than likely carry the new iPhone. I guess we may wait till next year for the great iPhone 4G.

Siri: A Serious App
I believe this may be the most useful software I've seen come out in awhile. This is truly amazing! It's a personal assistant in your pocket.
I'm really excited to see where this leads. It's a free App for the iPhone so be sure and download it today.

Apple Releases iPhone OS 3.1.3
As always... If you're planning on a jailbreak and unlock... DO NOT UPDATE YOUR iPHONE OS. None of the current jailbreak and unlocking tools are compatible with 3.1.3. Still, as many times as I say it... I still have friends doing it every time an update comes out. LOL! Enjoy your $600 iPod.

Apple Event 01.27.2010
The day is here. Apple's unnamed event. Everyone has been speculating about what exactly is going to be announced. There's been rumors of the iPhone OS 4.0, the new iLife, AT&T's loss of exclusivity of the iPhone and a few other tweets here and there about the Apple Tablet. (Including the $899 price tag.)
Goodbye 2009…

Well at the end or 2009 Apples iPhone 3GS is the definite winner. Still months ahead of the competition... I honestly thought RIM, Nokia or HTC would step up. Come one HTC... I know you can do way better than what you're putting out.
2010... wow! That's crazy. I'm really looking forward to seeing what Apple puts out next. Lets see that everyone has ready to pump out for the new year.
So everyone have a Happy and Safe New Year Everyone!
